Justin.TV - Looking for Guest on Tuesday
By Steve Poland • April 11, 2007
I’m sure you’ve heard about Justin — he’s been wearing a video camera and webcasting his life live on the web for the past 23 days. Everything he does is broadcast live — similar to those movies EdTV and The Truman Show.
He’s 23 and his plans are to have tons of people doing the same thing in the future — so you could essentially flip through the life channels of various people. I could see people letting each other know what’s going on in “so and so’s” life at any given moment, so that people would know that some “juicy” stuff is happening in someone’s life.
As I watch right now, he’s apparently on a date — the camera is stuffed into the curly locks of a blond. I’m wondering if this is the girl from the other night that some are thinking he “got lucky” with. It’s very intimate and I assume he doesn’t even think that the camera is there — he apparently wore it for 3 months prior to these 23 days thus far, as they were testing the equipment out.
So anyways, Justin is looking to take a day off (Tuesday) and is looking for someone to wear the camera for the day. I emailed him. I’m in Buffalo, NY, but I’ll be in San Francisco this coming Saturday through Wednesday attending the Web 2.0 Expo doing some writing on behalf of TechCrunch.
If I were to get chosen, what you’ll get to see is a bunch of random interviews/chats with entrepreneurs and VCs. Eric Schmidt (CEO/Chairman of Google) will be in attendance on Tuesday (he’s the keynote that day), so maybe a “live on Justin.tv interview with Eric Schmidt”? I’d likely do some kind of “live” or semi-live Q&A from readers of TechCrunch and Techquila Shots — letting you submit questions for anyone in attendance at the expo. Then likely some drinking and then at night I’d like to go see the band ‘The Shins’ play at The Warfield — maybe meet the band beforehand or afterwards and do some kind of interview as well??? That’d be some good publicity for Justin.tv and for the band — maybe get up on the stage???
Ahh.. it’s fun to think of being a celebrity for a day, even if it is only to an audience of 1000 at a time (or whatever they’re up to these days).
Anyhow, I think the audience he’s aiming for are teens (15-25) — those that are into reality TV shows and such, so I’m likely not the right candidate (what teen wants to see entrepreneurs and VCs chatting it up?). If I were to recommend anyone to him, it’d be Justine (fly her in from Pitt for the day) or Nick Douglas — because I think they have the potential of being lives #2 and #3 in the future expansion of Justin.tv. Actually, the guys just mentioned Nick Douglas as a possibility — they aren’t sure if he wants to do it.
Whose life would you like to see the “day in the life of” if you could choose one?
He’s now doing a contest — if you can find any one of the 15 GoDaddy stickers that are hanging around in the apartment, you’ll win a prize. It’s kind of cool to think of all the possibilities of how advertising can integrate into this. At ages 15-25 (I believe his target audience), you could really influence kids — “I drink Pepsi. Why? Because Justin.tv bought some at the grocery store.” Brand marketers must be salivating if this thing can really take off — and if Justin can get more lives wearing a video camera.
And right now he’s taking a leak, lovely. He does take the video camera off so you’re not seeing anything, but you are hearing everything. This is live and unedited folks, so be aware.
One last thing before I end this post — Justin just mentioned a kid that is getting treatment for leukemia and is his “#1 fan probably”. This kid likes watching Justin.tv, because he’s stuck in a hospital room and can only watch TV or surf the web — so when he watches Justin.tv, he feels like he’s hanging out with some people.
Wow. Seriously, that’s great.

Got something to say?

An idea worth noticing bout it, is the thing that I can flip through the channel of many daily lives. Is sort of like blog in video or ” reality blog ” ?
U can digg the .TV lives from all around the world. Internet do make the world look so near apart.
